After 3 weeks with no builds, Microsoft is finally pushing a new build for Insiders. And there’s a lot of changes. The new build version for PC is 16215, and for phones 15222. Both releases are for Fast Ring. As always, you can find ISO's for build 16215 on last section of this article.

What’s new?

MANY THINGS!

Start Menu

Start Menu got some improvements. The UI got tweaked with Fluent Design. Instead of transparency, you will notice the new acrylic design. In addition, the transition to tablet mode is also smoother.

There’s also enhancements when resizing start menu:

  • Vertical resize: No more glitches at the bottom of the frame.
  • Horizontal resize: The frame now starts resizing horizontally immediately (like vertical resize), as opposed to only “snapping” to certain widths.
  • Diagonal resize: The frame can be resized diagonally!
  • Resize grips: It’s now easier to “grip” the edge of the frame to start resizing.

Action Center has a new look and Fluent Design elements

The Action Center was redesign and provides clearer information separation and hierarchy.

You can also notice the acrylic with is also implemented on Toast Notifications.

There’s more highlight colors for your annotations and the ‘Ask Cortana’ feature is now supported on PDF’s too, which is neat.

You can now add all the sites open in tabs in current window to a new favorites folder.

Animations to open and close tabs are more smooth

Cortana

Vision intelligence

Cortana can now recommend reminders based on pictures on your camera roll. As Dona Sarkar mentions on blog post Most of us have experienced taking a picture of upcoming event poster or bookmarking an event site for future reference, only to forget about it later. The next time you take a picture of a flier for an upcoming event, Cortana will ask if you want to create a reminder.

Cortana Lasso

This new feature has the same goal as above, however is designed to pen users. With new lasso tool, you can circle relevant information and Cortana will generate a reminder based on date and time present on the circled content.

Improvements for handwriting experience

Check the blog post for detailed information for what’s new for handwriting experiences in Windows 10: gestures, easier editing, emojis, and more.

Improvements for Pen devices

Microsoft is introducing a new feature that allows you to find your pen, or more exactly, where you last inked on your computer, since Pens don’t have GPS.

In addition, there are Pen interaction improvements such scrolling with it, a top request feature.

The selection process also got enhanced.

Emoji Panel

Within this build, Microsoft is introducing an emoji panel for keyboard/mouse users. To pop up that panel, you can user shortcuts Win+; or Win+. and then use your keyboard/mouse to select the emoji you want to enter. This panel only works while focus is in a textbox.

For keyboard navigation, there are some navigation shortcuts:

  • Arrow keys – Navigate among emoji
  • Tab / Shift + Tab – Switch emoji category
  • Enter – Select an emoji
  • Esc – Close the panel
