Skype 11.14 is out for Insiders - Download APPX

A new update is rolling out for Skype app for Windows 10 Devices, but only for Insiders on Fast/Slow/Release Preview rings. This is the second update for Skype on April, and the new version is 11.14.662.0.

Two weeks ago I wrote an article aimed for people like me that aren't able to install Skype on Lumia devices through Windows Store, getting download/installation errors. I guess this is only a problem for older Lumias and it is an issue that my plagued devices for months and there is no fix for it yet, after so many feedback provided. Therefore, I committed my self to upload APPX files for future releases to help people facing this errors. For those unfamiliar, an APPX file allows you to sideload apps. Whenever you download an app from Windows Store, a APPX file is downloaded and installed (sometimes the download is partial, downloading only the new bits).

What's new?

This update is a minor one. It doesn't include new features, but it brings performance and stability improvements, which are always welcome.

Download and install Skype 11.14

Since Skype is an Universal Windows App, the package can be used to install the app on PC's.

  1. Go to Settings, then Security & Update, under For Developers, select Sideload apps or enable Developer Mode
  2. Download the appxbundle. This is latest Skype version available for Insiders, 11.14.662.0.
  3. If you want to install the app your phone, move the appxbundle file for phone's memory (or SD Card).
  4. To install the app, simply double click (or tap) the file. Windows 10 has built-in an app installer that will install the app. For phones, keep in mind that it might take a while to install the app because the appxbundle is quite large (~100MB). While on PC it shows installation progress, Windows Mobile doesn't, unfortunately.
